Wisconsin is home to 20 species of native bumblebees\, many of which live here in Milwaukee\, including the federally endangered rusty-patched bumble bee). Monitors help gather data on bumble bees in natural areas around the county using their smartphone or camera. DESCRIPTION:Wehr Nature Center is celebrating an exciting milestone in 2024 as it marks 50 years of being A Place for all Seasons\, A Place for Everyone.  “Rooted and Growing”\, the community is invited to pay tribute to the past and look forward to the bright future of the nature center at this celebratory open house-style event. \nYou can Expect:  \n\n1 pm – Remarks from community leaders including the County Executive\, Executive Director of Milwaukee County Parks\, Center Director and others paying tribute to Wehr’s past and revealing future plans\,\n1:30 pm – Collective hike to the oak savanna for a commemorative tree planting sponsored by Johnson’s Nursery in partnership with Retzer Nature Center (who is also celebrating their 50th anniversary)\,\n2 pm – Explore the trails via a self-guided scavenger hunt to get out and enjoy nature and learn more about the variety of initiatives and programs available to you at Wehr\,\n3:30 pm – Enjoy light refreshments\, cake\, and a puppet show in the Amphitheater.\n\nEvents from 1-4 pm: \n\nShare your memory at Wehr’s 50th anniversary memory display including photos\, milestones\, and stories of Wehr’s community impact\,\nParticipate in a youth photo contest\, learn from our community partners and clubs\, enjoy birthday cake\, and more!\n\nEvent is accessible thanks to our partnership with Access Ability Wisconsin (AAW).
