Wehr has many opportunities to connect with community this winter. Bring your friends or meet new ones at Brews and Shoes, support research in our parks at the Community Science Volunteer Kickoff, become a backyard sugarmaker at our Maple Tapping Workshops, or get inspired to take action at our Climate Change Conversations workshop. Families can dig into geology at our Fascinating Fossil for Families class, learn about STEM careers at Women and Girls in Science, and join our 48th Annual Maple Sugar Weekend in March.

This is without a doubt, the best place to birdwatch and see wildlife in the Milwaukee metro area. The nature center is fantastic. The staff is welcoming and the trails are extremely well-maintained. Always something exciting to see!
We are introducing another one of the awesome local scientists that will be attending our Women and Girls in Science event, where guests can learn more about the science and engineering careers that are out there along with being able to ask questions directly to the scientists themselves. We would like everyone to meet, Alison Schrad an Environmental Educator at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Here is bit more that Alison would like to share with you all. 🌳I’m Alison Schrad, and I have been an Environmental Educator at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center since 2024. At Schlitz Audubon, I teach the public about various nature topics including rocks and soil, photosynthesis, maple sugar farming, habitats, Lake Michigan, birds and much more! My day to day is never the same and that is what keeps it so exciting. Growing up I was always outside playing in the dirt, finding all sorts of critters, something I still enjoy doing till’ this day. I’ve always enjoyed learning about nature and being outside and I never knew I could turn that passion into a career. I ended up going to college at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point for Environmental Education and Interpretation to further my knowledge and not only did I enjoy learning about nature I found my love of teaching others about it as well.Join us at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center on Saturday, February 7th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn about female STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) pioneers and catch the "science bug" through hands-on activities hosted by local women leaders in the STEAM field.Recomendado para mayores de 10 años This event is Free of charge, but we prefer that you pre-register so we can estimate the number of supplies we need for everyone.
