Maple Sugar Days

Maple syrup is so much more than a pancake topper.
Join us at our 46th Annual Maple Sugar Days to hear the surprising stories behind your favorite sticky treat through an intimate guided hike that ends with a tasty treat.
Saturday, March 7th (12-4pm) and Sunday, March 8th (12-4pm)
A few highlights:
- Travel back in time to an old-fashioned sugar camp and hear tales of how hardworking folks (including kids) created syrup in the early days of Wisconsin.
- Meet our Maple Trees and discover the science behind their sweet, spring sap.
- Learn how the indigenous peoples of North America created the first maple sugar and continue their sacred tradition today.
- Smell the sweet steam as we boil down sap and learn how to create syrup in your own backyard.
- Taste maple sugar and enjoy a warm pancake topped with Wisconsin maple syrup.
- Sample a flight of syrup to discover the amazing variations in maple flavors. (additional fee)
- Try your hand at drilling a log and hammering in a spile or walk the Story Stroll.
- Maple-inspired food and treats will be on sale supporting Friends of Wehr. Shop the Nature Store for DIY equipment, books, maple candy, and more!
$12 per person; $10 for Friends of Wehr members; children 2 and under are free.
A $5 parking fee applies for non-members.
Register early! Pre-purchased tickets guarantee a space and lock in your hike time. Walk-in’s welcome as space allows.

How do I register?
- Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
- The program runs rain or shine.
- You will purchase tickets for a specific hike start time between noon and 4 pm. Each hike accommodates up to 18 people.
- Pre-registration closes at 8 am on the day of the program. Walk-ins are welcome as space allows.
How long is the hike?
- This 90-minute program includes a slow-paced guided walk and is mostly outdoors; dress accordingly.
- The hike will include walking and standing on woodchip trails. Some parts of the path are uneven; areas may be snow-covered and icy.
- This is an accessible event – see below for how to register for an all-terrain wheelchair or to list other accommodations in your registration.
How do I reserve an all-terrain wheelchair?
If you’d like to use an all-terrain wheelchair, please take a moment to complete this form. A deposit is required for reservation but can be refunded upon return of a completed survey.
Our partners at Access Ability Wisconsin are providing three all-terrain wheelchairs for use during the event. More can be available with enough notice.

What time should I arrive?
Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled hike time. We do not guarantee you a hike if you arrive late.
May I bring my youth group?
Youth Groups may register anytime during the event and should bring at least one adult for every five children.
What age is this event appropriate for?
We recommend this event is best suited for children 5 and older based on educational content.
- Adults and children ages 3 and older need a ticket to enter the event.
- Babies/children in carriers/backpacks are free.
- Strollers not allowed given the terrain.
